28-01-2023Given the price, I expected sheets that feel higher-quality. To me, the fabric feels quite thin and not particularly soft. But maybe my expectations of organic cotton at this price point were too high, and in any case I appreciate being able to buy more ethical products at a more affordable price. -

A percale fitted sheet covers your mattress in a tightly woven plain-weave fabric: smooth, matte and crisp to the touch. At Zizzz it comes from 90 × 200 to 180 × 200 cm, for mattresses up to 30 cm deep, in GOTS-certified organic cotton and sewn in Portugal. The elastic runs all the way round, so the sheet stays taut.
Which fitted sheet size do you need?
Choose your fitted sheet by the actual dimensions of your mattress (width and length), not by the size of the bed frame. Each size has its own page with all available colours.

Up to 30 cm deep: box springs and toppers
Check your mattress depth too: our percale fitted sheets fit mattresses up to 30 cm deep, thanks to elastic that runs all the way round. That is enough for a deep mattress or a box spring with a topper. Our satin, by comparison, fits up to 26 cm.
A cool fitted sheet for warm nights
If you sleep warm, percale is the coolest weave in our range. Its 220 threads and 132 g/m² weight form a fine, matte surface that lets air circulate instead of trapping heat, and it feels cool when you get into bed. Colours
Our percale fitted sheets are plain: white, beige, grey and teal. They match either side of our percale duvet covers, which are two-tone and reversible.
Percale in brief
Percale is a tight plain weave with a 220 thread count. The fabric feels crisp, fine and matte, lets air through and softens with every wash. Everything about the weave, the comparison with satin and GOTS certification is on our percale bedding page.
Care: washing, drying, ironing
Our percale fitted sheets can be washed at up to 60 °C. Ironing is usually unnecessary: once stretched over the mattress, the elastic pulls out the creases. For a crisp finish, put it back on the bed straight from the dryer.

Our percale fitted sheets are sewn in Portugal, by a partner we know and visit regularly.

What fitted sheet size should I choose?
It depends on your mattress dimensions: 90 × 200 cm for a single bed, 140 × 200 cm for a standard double bed, 160 × 200 cm for a wide double bed (queen size) and 180 × 200 cm for a large double bed (king size).
How deep a mattress do they fit?
Our percale fitted sheets fit mattresses up to 30 cm deep, including a box spring with a topper. The elastic runs all the way round so the sheet stays in place.
Is percale a cool fabric?
Yes. Its tight 220-thread weave and light 132 g/m² weight let air circulate very well, giving a cool, matte feel against the skin. It is the coolest weave in our fitted sheet range.
What is the difference between a percale and a satin fitted sheet?
Percale (220 threads, 132 g/m²) is crisp, matte and breathable and fits mattresses up to 30 cm. Satin (276 threads, 120 g/m²) is smoother and silkier and fits mattresses up to 26 cm.
Do the fitted sheets match the duvet covers?
Yes. Our percale fitted sheets come in plain white, beige, grey and teal to match either side of our percale duvet covers.
Can I wash a percale fitted sheet at 60 °C?
Yes. Percale is machine washable at up to 60 °C and softens with every wash.
Does a percale fitted sheet need ironing?
Usually not: once stretched over the mattress, the fitted sheet smooths itself out. Put it back on the bed straight from the dryer for a crisp finish.
