What is the 50 × 70 cm format good for?
50 × 70 cm is one of the most common Swiss pillow sizes, which makes it the obvious choice for most beds here. It also means a wide choice of matching pillowcases and bed linen is available in Switzerland.
Compared with 40 × 60 cm, the format offers a little more surface and so more room to move. Compared with the square formats, it stays rectangular.
If you would rather take up less space in the bed, there is the 40 × 60 cm format; if you prefer lying on a square pillow, there is 65 × 65 cm. We have set rectangular and square side by side here.
For side sleepers, pillow height and support matter most; the surface is more a question of personal preference. Goose down or duck down in 50 × 70 cm?
Both have the same composition and the same certifications. The goose down pillow contains 650 g of filling and feels softer and plumper; it is made in Canton Bern. What are the 50 × 70 cm pillows made of?

How do I wash a 50 × 70 cm pillow?
Wool pillow: take out the inner pillow and wash the outer shell, which is quilted with a layer of Swisswool, at 30 °C on the wool cycle. The inner pillow with the wool balls does not need to be washed in normal use; airing it regularly is usually enough. Drying without a tumble dryer is covered in our five-step guide.
Goose and duck down pillows: machine washable at 60 °C. What matters is that the filling dries all the way through before you use the pillow again. If the care label allows a tumble dryer, a few clean dryer or tennis balls help to loosen the filling up again.

Are the 50 × 70 cm pillows suitable for people allergic to dust mites?
Both down pillows carry the NOMITE label: the densely woven cotton batiste forms a barrier against dust mites. The wool pillow carries no corresponding allergy certification. Wool does, however, regulate moisture and can thereby contribute to a microclimate that is less favourable to dust mites.
How much larger is 50 × 70 cm than 40 × 60 cm?
10 cm longer and 10 cm wider. Both formats are rectangular and both are available with all three fillings; the 40 × 60 cm format simply takes up less room in the bed.
