A satin pillowcase is a pillowcase made of cotton satin, with a smooth, soft surface and a subtle sheen. Zizzz offers satin pillowcases made of organic cotton in seven sizes, from 40 × 60 to 65 × 100 cm, in undyed ecru and with wood-look buttons. All are made in Portugal.
Which pillowcase size do you need?
The pillowcase is the same size as your pillow. Measure the pillow lying flat from seam to seam; the dimensions are usually on the label too. 50 × 70 and 70 × 50 cm are the same size. Which pillow size suits you: read our guide Which pillow size for which sleep type?.

Wood-look buttons
The satin pillowcases close at the side with wood-look buttons. The pillow stays firmly in place, and the pillowcase opens easily for washing. If you prefer to sleep without buttons, the percale pillowcases have an envelope closure with a sewn-in inner flap.
Ecru: undyed cotton
Our satin pillowcases are not dyed. Ecru is the natural colour of cotton, a warm, slightly creamy natural tone. Because the tone does not come from added dye, there is no colour that can wash out or fade. As with all natural fibres, the natural tone may change slightly over time with use, washing or light.
Satin in brief
Satin is a weave: in the satin weave, many threads lie on the surface, which makes the fabric smooth and gives it a subtle sheen. Our cotton satin is made of certified organic cotton, with 276 TC and 120 g/m² – neither silk nor synthetic fibre. TC (thread count) is the number of warp and weft threads per square inch (6.45 cm²) of fabric.

Satin or percale?
Satin feels smoother and more enveloping. If you prefer a cool, airy feel in bed or sweat a lot at night, you will often find percale pillowcases more comfortable – they are made of GOTS-certified organic cotton and come in several designs.

Care
Wash satin pillowcases at up to 60 °C and close the buttons first. Satin is comparatively easy to iron; hung up after a good shake, it often needs little or no ironing.
What goes with it
Satin duvet covers and satin fitted sheets are made of the same fabric as the pillowcases and can be combined.

Which pillow sizes are common in Switzerland?
The large traditional Swiss pillow measures 65 × 100 cm. 60 × 90 cm is also common in Switzerland and widely offered in French-speaking Switzerland, as are the square sizes 65 × 65 and 60 × 60 cm and the rectangular 50 × 70 cm. Does a 65 × 65 pillowcase fit a 60 × 60 pillow?
The pillowcase should be the same size as the pillow. In a pillowcase that is too large, the pillow sits loosely and slips easily. So measure your pillow lying flat from seam to seam and choose the matching size.
How do the satin pillowcases close?
The satin pillowcases close at the side with wood-look buttons. Zizzz percale pillowcases, on the other hand, have an envelope closure.
Is a satin pillowcase made of silk?
No. Satin is a weave, not a fibre. Zizzz satin pillowcases are made of organic cotton, not silk. The satin weave is what gives the fabric its smooth surface with a subtle sheen.
Do you sweat on a satin pillowcase?
Cotton can absorb moisture; polyester much less so. How warm bed linen feels also depends on the weave, the fabric weight and your own sense of warmth. Our satin feels smoother and more enveloping than percale; if you sweat a lot at night, you will often find percale more comfortable.
Are there pillowcases in 60 × 70 cm?
Yes, at Zizzz the 60 × 70 cm size is available in satin only. All other sizes are also available in percale.
