05-03-2026Ich habe etwa 30 Jahre unter Federn « gelitten », es gab nur tonnenschwere Wolldecken, die sich wie ein Brett anfühlten. Ich kuschle mich sehr gerne ein.
Dann kam Zizzz!
Das war wie ein Wunder. Heute nenn ich mein Bett mein Traumschiff. Ich gestehe, ich schlafe im Totallook von Zizzz auf einem kleinen flachen Wollkissen, bei dem ich die Füllmenge bestimmen kann, unter der besten Wolldecke, die ich je hatte und die ganze wunderschöne, angenehme Bettwäsche ist inzwischen auch von Zizzz, mit Stofflaken anstelle von Strech. Das gleiche gönne ich übrigens auch meinen Abundzu-Gästen. Zizzz ist das beste, was ich mir vorstellen kann! -

From what age does a child need a pillow?
In the first year of life a baby should sleep without a pillow. A firm, level mattress and a sleeping bag, with no loose objects in the bed, are among the recommendations for a safe sleeping environment.
After the first birthday a child does not automatically need a pillow. If you do want to introduce one, it should be fairly flat to begin with and should support the head and neck in a natural position. As the child grows, the right height depends above all on build, sleeping position and mattress.
These are general points of orientation. If you have questions about your child's sleeping position or the right pillow height, speak to your paediatrician.

The wool pillow is the one to choose if you want to set the height yourself. The duck down pillow is the one to choose if your child prefers a soft, yielding pillow.
Why the height of the wool pillow can be adjusted
The wool pillow comes in two parts: an inner pillow holding loose wool balls, and a removable quilted shell in certified organic cotton with a fine layer of Swisswool, which gives a smooth, even surface to lie on.
Open the outer shell, take out the inner pillow and open its zip. Remove wool balls if the pillow is too high, or add some if it is too flat. Keep the balls you take out and put them back later if you need to.
That makes the adjustable Swisswool pillow a children's pillow that grows with the child: start with a fairly flat setting and add wool balls later, when more height is needed. How much height suits is not a question of age alone, but of build, sleeping position and mattress.
40 × 60 or 50 × 70 cm?
Both fillings come in both formats. 40 × 60 cm is the more compact format and suits smaller beds particularly well. 50 × 70 cm is a common Swiss pillow format and offers a little more surface to lie on.

What are the Zizzz children's pillows made of?
Swisswool consists of 88 % Swiss virgin wool and 12 % plant fibres, which stabilise the wool. Virgin wool can take up moisture into the fibre and release it back into the surrounding air, while its surface stays comparatively dry to the touch. More about the wool on our Swisswool page.
The feathers and down in the duck down pillow come from Europe: 85 % feathers give the pillow structure, 15 % down makes it soft. The origin is controlled and traceable through DOWNPASS — live-plucking and force-feeding are excluded, and the supply chain is checked by independent audits.
Certified organic cotton wraps both fillings. On the duck down pillow the batiste is woven densely enough to form a barrier against dust mites — that is what the NOMITE label stands for.
How do I wash a children's pillow?
Wool pillow: take out the inner pillow and wash the outer shell, the one quilted with Swisswool, at 30 °C on the wool cycle. The inner pillow with the wool balls does not need to be washed with it in normal use; airing it regularly is usually enough. If in doubt, follow the sewn-in care label. Duck down pillow: washable at 60 °C. What matters is that the filling then dries all the way through before the pillow is used again. Shake the pillow out regularly between washes.
What does “children's pillow” mean at Zizzz?
At Zizzz, “children's pillow” means the two smaller head pillow formats, 40 × 60 and 50 × 70 cm. The material and the construction match the larger Zizzz pillows. The age at which a child uses a pillow is a separate question.

Frequently asked questions about children's pillows
Are the Zizzz children's pillows suitable for people allergic to dust mites?
The duck down pillow carries the NOMITE label. Its densely woven cotton batiste forms a barrier against dust mites and is suitable for people allergic to them. The Swisswool pillow carries no corresponding allergy certification. Wool does, however, manage moisture well by nature: it takes up water vapour and releases it back into the surrounding air. Since dust mites need a damp micro-climate to develop, wool can thereby create conditions that are less favourable to them.
How high should a pillow for a child be?
As a guide: the pillow should fill the gap between head and mattress and support the head and neck in a natural position, without pushing the head noticeably upwards. How much height that means depends on build, sleeping position and mattress. On the wool pillow the height can be set using the wool balls.
How many wool balls do I take out for a child?
There is no fixed amount. Start by taking out only a small quantity and check how your child lies. The pillow should support the head and neck without pushing the head noticeably upwards. Keep the wool balls you remove and add them back later if you need to.
What are the fill weights of the children's pillows?

Do standard pillowcases fit the children's pillows?

Can a children's pillow go in the tumble dryer?
The outer shell of the wool pillow does not belong in a tumble dryer; dry it flat in the air instead. For the duck down pillow: if the care label allows a tumble dryer, a few clean dryer or tennis balls help to loosen the filling up again.

How long does a children's pillow last?
