The Story Behind These Duvets…

Have you ever stayed in a budget hotel and slept on polyester bedding? You toss and turn all night. First, you’re too hot, then you’re too cold. At Zizzz, we only use 100% natural and renewable materials to give you the best night’s sleep possible.

We live in Switzerland, and we love skiing. We use wool fabrics for skiing. This gave us an idea. It’s no secret: skiers and athletes use wool for its unique qualities in extreme weather conditions. Wool keeps you warm when it’s cold and cool when it’s hot. It also keeps your body dry when you’re active.

Finding the right solution was our real challenge. Is there a lightweight and washable wool filling for bedding products? We searched far and wide and finally found what we needed right next door: a wonderful fiber called Swisswool.

Swisswool is a natural and patented filling made from 88% Swiss virgin wool and 12% vegetable fibers. This filling retains the unique properties of wool and is washable.

Replacing polyester with Swisswool wool was the first step. But a restful and safe sleep doesn’t just rely on the filling. Replacing regular cotton with organic cotton was also essential. Organic cotton is free of chemical fertilizers and pesticides, so there’s no need to worry about allergies.

At Zizzz, we only use organic cotton. We also produce our duvets locally in Switzerland.

Questions about Our Wool duvets

Can I wash my Zizzz Swisswool duvet?

Yes, you can wash it in your machine using the wool program and detergent, but avoid using a dryer as wool doesn't tolerate it.

Do wool duvets regulate body temperature?

Yes, that's wool's main benefit! Our wool duvets help regulate your body temperature while you sleep because of their natural breathability and ability to wick moisture. Wool can absorb up to 30% of its weight in moisture without feeling damp, which can help prevent you from overheating and sweating.

Whom are wool duvets best suited for?

Wool duvets are great for those who sleep hot or cold, as the wool fibers help to wick away moisture and regulate body temperature, keeping the sleeper snug and comfortable all night long.
Wool is also a hypoallergenic natural fiber that resists mold, mildew and dust mites, making wool duvets a good choice for asthmatics and allergy sufferers.

What size duvet should I choose to fit my bed?

In addition to the size of the bed, there are two other factors to consider. First, how much of the duvet you want to fall out on each side of the bed and secondly how much you or you and your partner move around at night.
We recommend the following:
• for a single bed of 80x200 cm, 90x200 cm, and 140x200 cm, we recommend a 140x200 cm duvet
• for more comfort in a single bed of 80x200 cm, 90x200 cm, and 140x200 cm, we recommend a larger duvet, as in160x210 cm (Swiss standard size)
• if you don't want your duvet to hang on the floor next to your bed, a duvet of 135x200cm or 140x200 cm for a double bed of 120x190-200 cm
• On big beds, like those sized 160x200, 180x200 and 240x240, you can use two 160x210 cm duvets.
• a 240x240 cm size duvet for a double bed of 140x190 or 140x200cm, if you want your duvet to cover or even envelop you under all circumstances

Are wool duvets hypoallergenic?

Wool duvets are considered hypoallergenic because wool fibers naturally resist dust mites, mold, and bacteria.

What is a wool duvet?

A wool duvet is a type of duvet made from natural wool fibers, usually wool taken from sheep, lamas or alpacas. Our wool duvets are made from Swisswool, which is pure virgin wool from sheep raised in the Swiss Alps, which has been reinforced with vegetable fibers to make it machine washable.

How to clean and maintain your duvet for longevity and hygiene?

Monthly airing eliminates humidity, kills dust mites and bacteria. Hang it outside or in a well-ventilated room, avoiding beating or vacuuming. Follow care instructions for washing and drying, use a gentle detergent, and consider using a duvet cover for added protection. Proper care ensures a clean, comfortable, and hygienic duvet for years.

Can they be used all throughout the year?

Wool can regulate body temperature and wick moisture away from the body, keeping you warm in the winter and cool in the summer.

How much do your wool duvets weigh?

We offer 2 different weights for our wool duvets. Most of our duvets are stuffed with wool at the rate of 290 grams per square meter. This is the average weight and is ideal all year round for the majority of people who live in a house with central heating.

How do I keep my wool duvet in good condition?

Air your wool duvet out regularly and dry-clean it when necessary to keep your wool duvet in good condition.
Our Swisswool duvets can be machine washed. They can be tumble dried if the dryer has a wool program, but it’s best to let them dry naturally.

Where are your wool duvets made?

Our Swisswool duvets for adults are made in Switzerland.

How is a wool duvet different from a down or synthetic duvet?

Wool duvets are different from down duvets, which are made from the feathers taken from birds, and synthetic duvets, which are made from man-made materials. Wool duvets are known for their natural breathability, ability to regulate body temperature, and moisture-wicking properties.

What are the advantages of a Zizzz duvet with Swisswool?

Zizzz duvet with Swisswool offers comfort and breathability, regulating temperature for a fresh morning wake-up. Its hypoallergenic wool repels dust and mites, staying drier than other fillings, and it's conveniently machine-washable.
